10 Tips to Know Before Sailing on – Norwegian Encore
“….Thinking about sailing on the Norwegian Encore? Here are 10 insider tips from a travel advisor who’s been there — from the best eats and shows to hidden gems you won’t find in the brochure….”
If you’ve ever cruised with Norwegian Cruise Line, you know each ship has its own personality — and Norwegian Encore is no exception. As a travel advisor who’s explored this ship from bow to stern, I can tell you that Encore delivers an experience that blends upscale dining, relaxed fun, and world-class entertainment.
Whether you’re a first-time cruiser or a returning NCL loyalist, here are 10 insider tips to help you make the most of your time onboard the Norwegian Encore.
1. Start (or End) Your Evenings at The District Brew House

Wild nights at the District Pub
The District Brew House is one of Encore’s most underrated gems. With a relaxed, industrial vibe, live music most nights, and more than 50 craft beers on tap or by the bottle, it’s a perfect place to hang out.
Insider Tip: Order a beer flight to sample a few regional brews and stay for the piano player — it turns into a lively sing-along lounge after dark.
2. Treat Yourself at Cagney’s Steakhouse
Looking for that “classic cruise indulgence”? Cagney’s Steakhouse nails it. Think USDA Prime cuts, truffle fries, and ocean views that make every bite even better.
If you have the Specialty Dining Package, Cagney’s is worth using a credit.
Nomad Tip: Go for the ribeye, start with the crab cakes, and end with the warm apple crisp — so good.
3. Don’t Sleep on The Local — Especially the Wings
The Local is Norwegian Encore’s 24-hour pub-style eatery, and it becomes everyone’s go-to for a reason. Whether it’s a late-night snack or a midday bite, the menu is consistently great. I love the burgers here and, of course, the wings. Ask for them well done if you like, and order as many as you would like.
Order the wings. They’re some of the best at sea — crispy, flavorful, and just the right amount of heat. Pair them with a pint and people-watch from the upper deck seating area.
4. Get a Taste of the South at Q Texas Smokehouse
For something hearty and bold, Q Texas Smokehouse delivers authentic, smoky barbecue that’s surprisingly good for being on a ship in the middle of the ocean. The

Combination plate QSmoke – NCL Encore
combination plate is my go-to and its filling. We also found it a great place to hang out early in the night and catch some great country music. Usually its drinks only – but we were able to rustle up some apps. We love the deviled eggs
Nomad Tip: The brisket and mac-and-cheese combo is a must. Add in the live country band, and you’ve got yourself a floating roadhouse.
5. Make Time for the Show “Choir of Man”
This show is easily one of the best at sea — high-energy, funny, and surprisingly moving. Choir of Man feels like a mix of pub sing-along and West End musical. Getthere early, even if you have reservations; there is a great pre-show atmosphere along with complimentary pre-show beer on stage.
Tip: Book your seats early via the app or onboard kiosk — it fills up fast, and for good reason.
6. Catch the Beatles in The Cavern Club
Norwegian’s Cavern Club pays homage to the legendary Liverpool venue, and the ship’s Beatles tribute band is one of the most talented you’ll see at sea. The show follows the era from Please, Please Me to Abbey Road they cover it all and in perfect character.
Can’t get a seat? Check if they’re playing in the main theater later in the cruise — it’s a full-on nostalgia trip worth experiencing.
7. Dine Italian-Style at Onda by Scarpetta
Onda by Scarpetta brings modern Italian dining to the middle of the ocean. With sleek décor and dishes that rival what you’d find in New York or Milan, it’s perfect for a romantic evening. If you enjoy pizza, get the Macellaio to start, and don’t overlook the Beef Filet, simple yet elegant. One of my favorites.
Also try the Spaghetti Tomato & Basil (a Scarpetta signature) and the creamy polenta appetizer. The wine list leans Italian — splurge a little for the experience.
8. Go French at Le Bistro
For something timeless and elegant, Le Bistro is the quintessential French dining experience on Norwegian Encore. Escargot, duck à l’orange, crème brûlée — it’s all here and perfectly executed.
Nomad Tip: If you’re celebrating something special, book Le Bistro early in your sailing week. It’s intimate and ideal for anniversaries or birthdays. Make sure to also bring pants and a nicer shirt for this venue; it’s not formal, but they do have a dress code for men and women.
9. The Manhattan Room – Dinner with a View
Among Encore’s main dining options, The Manhattan Room stands out for both its atmosphere and its live entertainment. With art deco flair and panoramic aft views, it’s a stunning setting for a complimentary dinner. If you are going to dine at the complimentary dining venues, make this restaurant your choice. Gorgeous views.
Tip: Go right when it opens to snag a window table and enjoy the live band, or later in the evening.
10. Don’t Miss Food Republic
Modern, shareable, and full of global flavors — Food Republic is a must-try. The menu ranges from sushi and Asian street bites to Latin-inspired small plates, and you order everything via tablet for quick service. Note – to me this is a great spot to grab some lite bites between a pint at the adjacent District Brew House.
Must-Try Dishes: Tuna tacos, truffle fries, and any of the sushi rolls.

The Norwegian Encore isn’t just another cruise ship — it’s a destination all its own. From its diverse restaurants and craft beer lounges to Broadway-level shows, it’s a ship that rewards exploration and indulgence.
