By Not So Hostel World – Showing our clients the less hostel side of travel
🧭 1. Why should I book my trip through a travel agent instead of online?
Booking with an experienced travel advisor saves you hours of research, frustration, and costly mistakes. At Not So Hostel World, we handle every detail—from flights and hotels to tours and travel insurance—so you can relax and actually enjoy the journey. Plus, we often have access to exclusive perks, upgrades, and insider pricing not available online. For more information, please check out our Blog post on this subject: https://notsohostelworld.com/2025/05/26/top-10-reasons-to-use-a-travel-agent/
🌎 2. What types of travel do you specialize in?
We specialize in planning custom FIT (Fully Independent Travel) Itineraries, cruises, and adventure travel around the world. Whether it’s a European rail journey, a luxury cruise through Patagonia, or an off-the-beaten-path escape in Southeast Asia, we design itineraries that fit your travel style, pace, and budget.
🏨 3. Do travel agents charge a fee?
At Not So Hostel World, we do not charge a fee for travel planning and booking. However, depending on the complexity of the trip or for trip planning, we may charge a fee. Simple hotel or cruise bookings are often complimentary, while customized itineraries that require research and multiple destinations may include a planning or concierge fee. We’re always transparent about fees before you commit. We offer complimentary consultations to see if we are a good match for each other.
🛳️ 4. Can you help with cruises?
Absolutely! I am certified and accredited with many cruise lines with firsthand experience on major lines like Princess, Norwegian, Carnival. MSC Royal Caribbean, and Holland America. We’ll help you choose the best itinerary, ship, and stateroom—plus access to onboard credits, upgrades, and other hidden perks. Often, we can beat prices by booking direct and/or providing a higher level of amenities.
📲 5. How does the booking process work?
- Consultation: We start with a conversation about your travel goals and preferences and learn what your ideal itinerary looks like.
- Proposal: We design a custom itinerary with recommended flights, hotels, activities, and pricing.
- Booking: Once approved, we confirm all arrangements and handle payments securely via an online portal.
- Support: From travel documents to 24/7 assistance during your trip, we’re with you every step of the way.
✈️ 6. Can you help with flights and travel insurance?
Yes! We can book flights, find the best routes, and ensure your connections align perfectly. We also recommend travel insurance options that protect your investment from delays, cancellations, or medical emergencies while abroad.
🧳 7. What if something goes wrong during my trip?
That’s exactly why having a travel agent matters. If flights are canceled or plans change, you won’t be stuck on hold—we step in to advocate for you, rebook, and resolve issues so your vacation keeps running smoothly.
💳 8. How do I pay for my trip?
Payments are made directly through secure vendor systems. We accept major credit cards and, where possible, offer payment plans or deposits to spread out costs. Many of our suppliers work with Affirm and other payment plans – if you are interested in this option, please let us know as soon as possible so we can suggest appropriate vendors and suppliers.
📅 9. How far in advance should I plan my vacation?
For international trips, 6–9 months ahead is best. For cruises and group travel, earlier is even better—up to three years in advance—to lock in lower fares and cabin choices. Domestic trips can often be booked 3–4 months ahead without too much trouble. Of course, we can also help with last-minute travel, both internationally and domestically.
🌍 10. Do you offer group or family travel planning?
Yes! We love working with families, friend groups, and multi-generational travelers. Whether it’s a destination wedding, reunion, or milestone celebration, we coordinate the logistics, so everyone enjoys a seamless, stress-free experience. We handle almost everything.
🧭 11. What’s the best cruise line for my travel style?
It depends on what you’re looking for! Families often love Royal Caribbean or Norwegian Cruise Line for fun and flexibility, while couples may prefer Princess, Celebrity, or Viking for a more relaxed or upscale vibe. We even book luxury cruises with Ritz-Carlton, Oceania, Viking, Azamara, etc. We’ll match your personality and preferences with the perfect cruise line and itinerary.
🏝️ 12. When is the best time to book a cruise?
Cruises are best booked 6–12 months in advance, especially for popular sailings like Alaska, the Mediterranean, and holiday dates. Booking early ensures better cabin selection, lower pricing, and extra promotions. The best rates can often be found when cruise space is first released for that season, often 2-3 years before sailing. The best part, with refundable or low deposits, there is less risk in booking so early.
🚢 13. Can you help arrange shore excursions or specialty dining?
Yes! We can pre-book shore excursions, onboard dining, spa treatments, and drink packages—often at lower prices than onboard rates. We also recommend local independent tours for a more authentic experience at each port.
🧳 14. What should I pack for a cruise?
It depends on the destination, but we’ll provide a custom packing checklist before your trip. In general, pack layers for varying climates, one formal outfit (if required), and essentials like sunscreen, medications, and travel documents.
🛂 15. Do I need a passport or visa for my trip?
Yes, a valid passport is required for all international travel, and some destinations also require visas or entry authorizations. We’ll guide you through the process and help you meet entry requirements for your destination. However, the responsibility falls on the traveler to know the laws and regulations for travel and entry into countries they are traveling to. We can act as a resource but ultimately refer to the US Department of State and the country you are visiting’s immigration website.
💉 16. Do I need vaccines or travel health documents?
Some countries may require certain vaccinations or health forms. We’ll let you know what’s needed and direct you to trusted resources like the CDC Traveler’s Health site or your healthcare provider for up-to-date recommendations.
🌐 17. Can you help with currency exchange and international payments?
We can recommend the best ways to handle foreign currency, travel cards, and local payments safely. Many travelers prefer to use credit cards with no foreign transaction fees and keep some local cash on hand for small purchases. We encourage our clients to limit their use of debit cards and cash overseas when possible and use a credit card or multiple. This can limit your exposure to theft, fraud and can protect you on purchases.
🏛️ 18. How can I stay connected while abroad?
We’ll help you find the most affordable SIM cards, eSIM options, or international phone plans so you can use maps, communicate, and share photos without huge roaming charges. Most iPhones and Androids can utilize eSIMs and we love using apps like Airlo. If your phone is unlocked, you can get a country-specific eSIM or a regional one if traveling to more than one.
✈️ 19. Can you plan travel for large groups or family reunions?
Yes! We handle multi-room bookings, group airfare, transportation, and activities so everyone travels seamlessly. We also create private group pages or payment portals to make coordination easy on everyone, and we handle most, if not all, of the logistics.
🎉 20. Do you offer group discounts or incentives?
Many cruise lines, resorts, and tour companies offer group rates, free cabins, or onboard credits for a certain number of travelers. We’ll make sure your group gets the best value and perks available.
👶 21. Can you help with family-friendly travel options?
Absolutely. From kid-friendly resorts and cruises to private guides and family suites, we curate experiences that keep both adults and kids happy. We also offer advice on destinations that work well for multi-generational travel.
🚌 22. What’s the best way to manage different arrival times or locations in a group trip?
We can coordinate staggered flights, transfers, and check-ins to make sure everyone arrives smoothly. Our detailed itineraries and communication tools keep everyone on the same page before and during the trip.
